OUR AWESOME CAMP!!!!

Welcome to Paige and Darrian's term 4 week 5 blog . Last week we were at Nydia Bay in the Malbrough Sounds! We were the only class to go there on camp.

We had loads of fun, learnt alot and did some pretty crazy things. Here are some of our highlights and photos of the week.
On the left Mildly Hot Stuff are cooking
damper for one of their duty rotations.

Highlight 1: Tuesdays fishing experience was the best fishing experience most of us have had ever!
We went on a chartered boat with Captain Gary for  7 hours (luckily they had toliets on the boat lol). We caught 17 fish, seven different species
, about 500 scallops and two of the biggest star fish ever (which we chucked
back). And boy did we have the best tea! Kate Lovell caught the biggest fish of the day, it was massive.

Highlight 2: Kayaking
On the left is Mr Maybee (Craig) teaching us
how to kayak around the island about 50m out from the jetty. Mani stood up on the overturned kayak and started paddling back to shore! Most people enjoyed the kayaking. Kick Kiwi's saw a massive stingray on their kayaking journey scary!

Reporting from the gas cooking is Darrian. "Jade's burgers were huge. Yum ,who wants some?
Lets look at dessert. Look at the master piece Darrian's group made, yum!".
For the dessert, Seth and Tane with their butterscottch deighlight came 1st equal with Darrian's group:

Darrian,Kodi,Matt,Josh D, and their dessert below ,and first equal as well was Paige,Abbey and Kate with their banana splits.

On Wednesday it was Sanford's birthday. He turned 13 and at night he had two small cakes. That night we slept in tents. Also that night Josh D,Matt,Kodi,Josh W and Darrian played' When Gnomes Attack' and that was really fun.

On Thursday it was Paige's birthday and she turned 13.... teenagers Wow! Also on Thursday some of us got the chance to do knee boarding. Paige fell off first try then Boom! off she went! Then it was Tanya's turn. She made it the whole way!

So thanks to Miss Rodman ,Mr Maybee and all the parents! We could not have made all the awesome things we did possible with out you :)
Thats all from Paige and Darrian, until next time. See ya !

Thriller

Hello this is Josh D and Josh W from Room 18 and we are going to give you a quick review of the Christchurch South week and about the Thriller dance that we performed.
As part of the Christchurch South week Broadgreen  Intermediate performed a dance called "Thriller" and as part of the concert. A student in our class called Locky played Michael Jackson while the other 20 kids played the ghosts and zombies along side him. The thriller kids also did the dance at the Broadgreen and Christchurch South disco. When they danced at the disco they had about 10 more kids than at the concert. It was an excellent performance and we know that Christchurch South enjoyed it.

Blessing of the Carving

On Friday 14th September the school gathered in front of the school for the blessing of the carving which hangs above the entrance to the front office. At first we sat there silently and after a while we sang the waiata 'Ko Toku Marae Tenei'. Then Tamati did a speech in Maori and after that we passed under the door and gently touched the carving to complete the ceremony. The carving represents us as a school and our spirit.

Wacky Day

On Thursday the 6th of August Broadgreen Intermediate had a Wacky Day! All students had the opportunity to dress up in all sorts of wacky things. There was wacky hair, wacky clothes and wacky shoes. All the House Leaders chose the ten best dressed. They won a bag of lollies each. Here are some people from Room 18 who dressed up.

Each student who participated made a gold coin donation and the proceeds went to "The Big Night In" Telethon 09. We managed to raise $370! That money will go to the charity KidsCan Stand Tall, raising money for raincoats, shoes and food for children in New Zealand. The total that the Telethon raised was $1,944,255! Wow, thats a lot of shoes and raincoats! Broadgreen was very excited to take part in helping to put an end to poverty in NZ.
We had a really fun day dressing up.We hope everybody else enjoyed it too!

Science Fair!!!!!

Kia ora koutou,
Ko Locky toku ingoa,
Ko Mani toku ingoa,
Ko te wiki o te roa Maori,
KA MAU TE WEHI!!!!!!

Hello everyone,
My name is Locky,
and my name is Mani,
This week is Maori language week,
AWESOME!!!!!!
One of our focuses for term 2 was The Science Fair. These are our Science boards!!!!!

Locky and Jamie
Static Electricity
We did this for our science fair because we wanted to find out how static electricity really works, we found out it works with electrons. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WORK!!

Jharn, Sanford, Tom
Skate Fizz
We found out that Fizz and Mentos do not, I repeat DO NOT power a skateboard.

Seth, Amy, Tane
Crystal Mania
We found that Rock Candy grows bigger than sugar crystals. We should have been more organized.

Aden, Mani, Jade
Apple Bomb
Our results were irrational due to the apple absorbing the coke.

Kathryn, Holly
Which cat food are cats most attracted to?
We found out that cats really do prefer Chef (MEOW!) and they don't like Whiskers.

Josh Denton.
Does Oil Burn On Water?
I found out that oil does not burn on water, but that petrol does.

Kate, Baylee
Great Globs Of Gluten
We found out that whole meal flour has the most gluten in it.

Darrian and Kodi
Can You Stop A Balloon From Popping?
We found that you can stop a balloon from popping with tape on the balloon.

Tanya, Paige, Sally
What colour holds the most heat?
Black holds the most colour and purple holds the least.

Blake, Josh W, Sean
Bubbleology
The experiment was to see what bubbles last the longest in a container.

Jelly Bean Results

Kia Ora !!!!!
I am Aden and I'm with Jharn. Were giving you the best of Room 18's jelly bean test results.

Laughlan's team results:
1st time :
When they changed the temperature of the water to boiling hot,the jelly beans turned the edges of the cloth blue.
2nd time:
When they changed the colour of the jelly beans the cloth got more colour added to it.
The prediction that the jelly beans would dissolve was false because they only lost their colour and became a cream colour

Jharn's team results:
1st time:
When they changed the colour of the beans it worked better than last time.
2nd time:
They kept the colour of the six red jelly beans because no matter what happens it will end up the same way.
The prediction was that in the second test the cloth would turn pink and that prediction was correct.

Baylee's team results:
1st time:
When they changed the colour of the jelly beans it turned a little bit blue.
2nd time:
They changed the type of vinegar but the cloth didn't change colour.
The prediction was wrong.

Farewell from Aden and Jharn.

Our Jelly Bean Fair Testing Investigation

Hey, this is Jamie and Sanford on the blog this week, talking to you about this weeks science experiments using jelly beans :o
The experiment was to see if we, the class could dye a piece of white cloth using
JB's (jelly beans), clear vinegar, a jar or clear pot of luke-warm water and a white cloth.

It works by filling a jar with luke warm water, then you apply the 'six' jelly beans, either all of the same colour or all different colours. For instance, the picture above has all different coloured JBs. The next step was to add about a lids worth of white vinegar, then you guessed it, add the white cloth.

We did the normal experiment which is seen above, then the second time we
did it, we had to change one variable, like the colour of the jelly beans or the temperature of the water. Now if you were intelligent enough visually, you should have seen a difference but you're probably not, so that's why we did another test, not! We did another test because its a part of FAIR TESTING which is the key to all good science investigations. You could change one thing which you decide on. Now this was where most people saw a great colour burst in their cloths.

We had a work sheet to fill out during our jelly bean investigation to see what we all observed during our interesting but fun time.

Well I hope you enjoyed reading about Room 18's fun week

Peace Out!!!
